Although very similar in name, resin bound and resin bonded are actually very different.
Resin bound paving is what we do at The Devon Resin Co.
This system mixes natural aggregate, marble (stone) and clear resin thoroughly together. During this process, each particle of stone is fully covered in resin and laid immediately onto a conventional base, to a smooth permeable finish. The finished depth of a resin bound paving surface varies between 15mm and 24mm – depending on the size and type of stone used and the application (e.g. driveway). Using a resin bound paving system allows us to combine different sizes and colours of stone, offering a wide variety of finishes.
In summary, a resin bound system delivers a permeable, durable, accessible, multi-layer surface. Because the finish is smooth there is no loose stone – guaranteed.
What is resin bonding?
Resin Bonding is the process of scattering loose dried aggregates onto a coating of resin after the resin has been applied to a surface. It is designed to resemble the texture and appearance of loose gravel. Resin bonded aggregates are sometimes referred to as a scattercoat, broadcast or coat system.
Resin bonding must not be confused with resin bound, which is the process of mixing the aggregates with the resin. The resulting resin bound aggregate mix is trowelled down for a smooth, flat finish, with no loose aggregates. Find out more about the differences between resin bound and resin bonded.
